The Citadel in Hue!

The next morning in Hue, Vietnam we headed to The Citadel (forbidden city) where most of it is in ruins from the American bombing it during the Vietnam War... they have rebuilt alot of it and it was very interesting to see the detail of work and how big it really was.

They even had an opportunity for you to dress up and ride an elephant like royalty... we did not do it but it looked fun...

Pierce was quite bored with it all until we saw this...

He also livened up when we ran into this house that was being used as an office for the Citadel and in front there was a platform of grass that he thought was a stage... literally for Pierce... he does think "Life is a stage"...

Grandpa found this canon for him to ride... smiles...

A great pic of the details work the workers do to restore the buildings... Blake had commented why don't they just get a spray gun and go at it... but I had learned when I visited China that when they restore the old temples they like to restore them the way they were built... so this man is sitting on the ground holding a very small paint brush to paint this pillar...

The way out...

We only had time to see one of the temples (there were four main ones) bc we were off for a 2.5 hour ride to Danang Airport to fly back to Hoi Chi Minh for Christmas Eve... more to come...

What a tedious way to paint.
