A Ball in Ulsan... Jan 2014

My good friend Heather asked us if we wanted to go to Burns Ball coming up... and I had no idea what she was referring to but I am glad we said yes... we ended up getting a whole table full of friends and having a ball.  There is a huge history to Burns Ball and I would never do it justice so in short it is a Scottish event full of dancing, drinking, poems, getting dressed up, eating and more.  

I had recently lost some weight so I thought oh well I'm going to a ball so I need a new dress... and with some friends help we decided that I needed a RED DRESS for the ball.  Now keep in mind we are in Korea (Koreans are really small) and it is winter... so we had a lofty goal but it was a goal... so off we went shopping and do you know we walked into a Korean store called Micha and found a red dress with long sleeves... it was beautiful and I was very excited about it.  I came home and took pics and sent to family and friends back home to get their input... it was a hit.  However I did not have any time to put it on for Blake (and it was kind of hard to put on and off... a little tight) so the night of the ball I had two dresses that I tried on for him... Guess what he picked?

Not the RED DRESS but the black one (he wanted me to show a little skin... HE HE HE)... No big deal, we put on the black one and off we went... first the red carpet.

The bag pipes were amazing but the Haggis was not so amazing... I choose not to eat it after I watched every one's face around the table.

My date... isn't he handsome... love him.

P.S.  If your worried about the red dress... well don't, she will make her appearance later... don't worry.

Crabs and Lobsters... Yummy... Oct 2013

We had some dear friends leave Ulsan so we wanted one more night together... they got to pick the place and one of their favorite places serves HUGE lobsters and HUGE crabs... Blake was out of town so we ate plenty for him (bc he would have loved it... NOT).  Wow... they were big and delicious.  We got to pick them live out of the aquarium, then they steamed them and then put them on a tray and cut them up using scissors. Bon Appetite.

After dinner we headed to the indoor golfing facility... theirs a first time for everything.

The next picture is me (the only one who knows a little Hangul) trying to figure out what to do...

Getting pointers from the pro... lets just say I was terrible.

Tree House Park and Black Pebble Beach with friends - Oct 2013

We had met some new friends from the states and thought it would be fun to get the boys out one day for some fun in the sun before it got really cold... so off we went to the Tree house park and Black Pebble Beach.  The boys love this park bc there is fun for all ages and they even have sledding and a baby swing (the only one that we have found in Ulsan).  Asher had only been walking for a few weeks now so the sand was really good for him.  They all loved it. 

Here is the sledding... so fun and I would just like to make a note that I don't think you would even find this in America... it just screamed some kid is going to do something silly and get hurt and this thing will be shut down... but we just went with it and let kids be kids... everyone was sensible and they listened to the man that was telling all the kids what to do and what not to do... just like the good ol' days.

After the fun in the sand at the park we went to have fun in the rocks at the beach (for some reason this sentence sounds really odd to me).

this was really one of the last days of fall... winter was right around the corner and beach was cold.  we were not able to stay long but the kids had fun playing in all the smooth black rocks.  These friends are already gone (moved on Africa from Korea) and just blogging about this makes me remember how fast things change around here in the expat life.  You have really got to make the best of each day with whom God has given you for each day... bc tomorrow it might be different... but different is not bad just different.  I have really grown to love and appreciate this life we call expatriating.
